Apostille Service for Argentina (or its embassies/consulates).

Fast and reliable assistance for Argentine citizens and/or US citizens with children born in the United States.

A child born in the U.S. to Argentine parents can obtain dual citizenship. To do so, they must register at the Argentine Embassy in the U.S., according to the requirements of the Argentine Embassy in the U.S. They are as follows:

Requirements

  • Applicant's birth certificate with Hague Apostille. The parents' names and surnames must match those on their identity documents, passports, and birth certificates (i.e., correct, complete, and without abbreviations). The original apostilled birth certificate will be filed in this Consular Section.

  • Notarized or certified translation of the applicant's birth certificate, including the Apostille.

  • Valid and current passport of the applicant.

  • Birth certificate of the native Argentine parent who will grant you citizenship. The Civil Registry and RENAPER do not accept birth certificates. Therefore, you must obtain a digital birth certificate online.

  • ID of the parent who will grant him/her nationality.

  • Proof of applicant's address (e.g., driver's license showing address).

  • Copy of the other parent's ID. If they are a foreigner, a valid passport.

The process is considered initiated once all the documentation has been received, verified, and approved by the consular authority.

Document submission is by appointment only.

Steps

  1. Gather the documents: Obtain the long version of the U.S. birth certificate and have it apostilled by the appropriate federal or state authority before the embassy or consulate will accept it.

  2. Translation: Obtain an official Spanish translation of the birth certificate, which must be notarized and apostilled.

  3. Schedule an appointment: Schedule an appointment at the Argentine Embassy or Consulate nearest to your location to complete the procedure.

Since the implementation of Argentina's new Electronic Civil Registry in March 2019, birth registration and the option for Argentine nationality are carried out online and in real time, eliminating the delays caused by the manual submission and transcription of documentation. This advancement, however, does extend the in-person process. For this reason, applicants are asked to allow approximately three hours for this procedure, with the possibility of leaving and returning at the end of that time.

  1. Appointments and inquiries are requested exclusively via email to: poderesynacionalidad@embassyofargentina.us

  2. Attend the appointment: Bring all documents, including the original and translated birth certificate with its apostilles, as well as the passports and identity cards of the parents.

Additional considerations

  • Minors: For the registration of a minor, both parents must be present, if possible. If one of them cannot attend, a signed authorization will be required.

  • Documentation: It is essential that all documents are submitted in order. The birth certificate must be the complete version and be properly apostilled and translated.
